It is used in clothing (e.g., jackets and jeans), luggage and other bags, sporting goods, camping gear (e.g. tents and sleeping bags), and other items. It was perfected by Gideon Sundbäck circa 1917 based on previous less effective fasteners, but many others have made improvements and different versions of the device.
