A white elephant
Meaning
Something that is more trouble than it is worth.
Origin
White (albino) elephants were regarded as holy in ancient times in Thailand and other Asian countries. To keep a white elephant was a very expensive task, since you had to provide the elephant with special food, and provide access for people who wanted to come and worship it. If a Thai King became, for some reason, dissatisfied with a sub-king, he would give him a white elephant. The gift would, in most cases, ruin the recipient.

Snow White and the severed wharves
Snow White was a beautiful young Strine secret service agent. In private life she was a doctor of philospophy and a connoisseur of immersion heating. As a counter spy (officially known as 004), she was noted for her dexterity with the hypodermic syringe and for her unswerving promiscuity in the service of her country. Her most remarkable attributes, however, were her extraordinary powerful lungs, which she used to great advantage whenever mouth-to-mouth anti-reuscitation was the only way to escape from the embraces of a no longer useful admirer. This high-pressure method was rather frowned on by her more conservative colleagues but it was undeniably effective; her victim just dilated like a sunfish and became entangled in the chandeliers, or drifted over the horizon in whatever direction the wind happened to be blowing.

White
White Regarded as the source whence the seven prismatic colors diverge, it stands for the Logos of a hierarchy. Nearly all the archaic religio-philosophies state that light or white is born of darkness, the incomprehensible deeps of universal life which is darkness only to our poorly evolved sense and mind. In this sense, darkness may often be spoken of as absolute light.
As opposed to black, it mystically signifies pure and good: for example, white magician or white magic.

White
White is the combination of all the colors of the visible light spectrum.. It is sometimes described as an achromatic color, like black.
White is technically achromatic, and not a color, since it has no hue. The impression of white light can be created by mixing appropriate intensities of the primary colors of light — red, green and blue — a process called additive mixing, but the illumination provided by this technique has significant differences from that produced by incandescence.

White-
White- (бело-), a prefix used by Bolsheviks to designate their real and alleged enemies of all sorts, by analogy with the White Army.
- White-Guardist ("белогвардеец"): a member of the "White Guard". The members of the White movement never applied the term "White Guardist" to themselves. Also, White-Guardists were called simply "Whites" ('белые', 'беляки') by their opponents.
- White-emigrant (белоэмигрант): any citizen of the Tsarist Russian Empire who left the country during the Russian Revolution or the Russian Civil War (1917-1922). White emigrants were perceived as a threat to the Soviet state, a source of espionage and counter-revolutionary plots.
- White-Pole (белополяк): a term that appeared during the Polish-Soviet War, and later reemerged during the annexation of a part of Poland in World War II.
- White-Finn (белофинн): a term introduced during the unsuccessful attempt to initiate a revolution in Finland in 1917-1918, and reintroduced as part of the propaganda related to the preparation of the Winter War against Finland. the term continued to be in the subsequent use, e.g., in the context of the Karelian Uprising.
- White-Chinese (белокитаец): a term denoting Chinese forces that fought together with the White Army in Siberia and the Russian Far East, as well as anti-communist Chinese during the Chinese Civil War.
- White-Czechs (белочехи): members of the Czech Legion.
- White-Cossacks(белоказаки): cossack military that fought against the Bolsheviks during the Civil War.
