supervisor mode
(Or "supervisor state") An execution mode on some processors which enables execution of all instructions, including privileged instructions. It may also give access to different a address space, to memory management hardware and to other peripherals. This is the mode in which the operating system usually runs.

Any individual having authority, in the interest of the employer, to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline other employees, or responsibly to direct them, or to adjust their grievances, or effectively to recommend such action, if in connection with the foregoing the exercise of such authority is not of a merely routine or clerical nature, but requires the use of independent judgment. 29 USC

Supervisor
A supervisor is an employee of an organization with some of the powers and responsibilities of management, occupying a role between true manager and a regular employee. A Supervisor position is typically the first step towards being promoted into a management role.
Supervisor, foreman, foreperson, team leader, overseer, cell coach, facilitator and area coordinator are all different names for the supervisor function. The US Bureau of Census has four hundred titles under the supervisor classification.
An employee is a supervisor if they have the power and authority to do the following actions (according to the Ontario Ministry of Labour):
- Give instructions and/or orders to subordinates.
- Be held responsible for the work and actions of other employees.
- Administer discipline and penalties.
