Razor shell
The Razor shell (Ensis arcuatus) is a bivalve of the family solenidae. It is found on sandy beaches in Northern Europe, although it prefers coarser sand than its relatives E. ensis and E. siliqua.[1] It is known for its elongated, rectangular shape, whose similarity to the straight razor gives it its name. The razor shell has been known to reach 20cm in length.

Ensis
- Ensis is also the name of a star, Eta Orionis, and the old astrological name of the Orion Nebula, Messier 42.
Ensis is a genus of medium-sized edible saltwater clams, littoral bivalve mollusks in the family Solenidae.
In the USA, Ensis clams are usually called razor clams or jackknife clams. This is because the long, narrow, and parallel-sided shape of their shells is unusual in bivalves. The shape of these clams ressembles a closed, old-fashioned straight razor (a cut-throat razor), or a closed jackknife, (pocket knife). The shells can be fragile and can easily be damaged when digging for these clams.
