Monogamy /Gr. μονός+γάμος (monos+gamos) - one+marriage/ a form of marriage in which an individual has only one spouse at any one time. In current usage monogamy often refers to having one sexual partner irrespective of marriage or reproduction. The term is also applied to the social behavior of some animals, referring to the state of having only one mate at any one time.

A marriage contracted between one man and one woman, in exclusion of all the rest of mankind; it is used in opposition to bigamy and polygamy. The state of having only one husband or one wife at one time.

Having an intimate relationship, usually sexual, with only one other person for a considerable length of time.

Some cynics say that monogamy is natural for women and unnatural for men.
