historicism
A means of working with the problem that all "history" is history from the perspective of the historian. (OT, p.372) "All knowledge is rooted in a life, a society, and a language that have a history; and it is in that very history that knowledge finds the element enabling it to communicate with other forms of life."(OT, p.372/3) | ||||

Historicism
"Historicism" may also refer to Schools of History
Historicism is the theory that claims:
- that there is an organic succession of developments (also known as historism or the German historismus), and
- that local conditions and peculiarities influence the results in a decisive way.
It can be contrasted with reductionist theories which suppose that all developments can be explained by fundamental principles (such as in economic determinism).
