The fee paid to a broker to execute a trade, based on number of shares, bonds, options, and/or their dollar value. In 1975, deregulation led to the creation of discount brokers, who charge lower commissions than full service brokers. Full service brokers offer advice and usually have a full staff of analysts who follow specific industries. Discount brokers simply execute a client's order -- and usually do not offer an opinion on a stock. Also known as a round-turn.

Commission

Commission is compensation paid to you with the amount calculated as a percentage of your sales. (2) Broker's fee for buying or selling securities.
Contracts, Civ. Law. When one undertakes, without reward, to do something for another in respect to a thing bailed. This term is frequently used synonymously with mandate. If the service the party undertakes to perform for another is the custody of his goods, this particular sort of commission is called a charge.
In a commission the obligation on his part who undertakes it is to transact the business without wages or any other reward and to use the same care and diligence in it as if it were his own.
By commission is also understood an act performed, opposed to omission, which is the want of performance of such an act; as when a nuisance is created by an act of commission it may be abated without notice; but when it arises from omission notice to remove it must be given before it is abated.
Office. Persons authorized to act in a certain matter as; such a matter was submitted to the commission; there were several meetings before the commission.
