Aftershock Definition from Encyclopedia Dictionaries & Glossaries
An aftershock is a smaller earthquake that occurs after a previous large earthquake, in the same area of the main shock. If an aftershock is larger than the main shock, the aftershock is redesignated as the main shock and the original main shock is redesignated as a foreshock. Aftershocks are formed as the crust around the displaced fault plane adjusts to the effects of the main shock.

Aftershock (Also spelled AfTeRshOck or AFTeRSHOCK) was a metalcore band based out of Boston, Massachusetts. The band was formed in 1992 by the Dutkiewicz brothers, and broke up in mid 1999 shortly after Adam Dutkiewicz joined Killswitch Engage. After a 2-year hiatus, in 2001, the group re-formed for a reunion tour in Japan. After the band's last effort, the release of the "Live In Japan EP" in 2004, the group officially broke up. The band also consisted of past and present members of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall. The group is best known for its hit 2001 single off of the Five Steps From Forever EP, "For Those Of You Who Kill".
