NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms
adenosine triphosphate
ATP. A substance present in all living cells that provides energy for many metabolic processes and is involved in making RNA. ATP made in the laboratory is being studied in patients with advanced solid tumors to see if it can decrease weight loss and improve muscle strength.

BioProcess International™ Glossary
adenosine triphosphate (ATP)
Known as the "molecular currency" of intracellular energy transfer, this nucleotide can store and transport chemical energy. It also plays a part in nucleic acid synthesis.

Adenosine triphosphate Definition from Society & Culture Dictionaries & Glossaries

Environmental Engineering (English ver.)
ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE (ATP)
An organic, phosphate-rich compound important in the transfer of energy in organisms. Its central role in living cells makes it an excellent indicator of the presence of living material in water. A measure of ATP therefore provides a sensitive and rapid estimate of Biomass. ATP is reported in micrograms per liter of the original water sample.

Wikipedia English - The Free Encyclopedia
Adenosine triphosphate
Adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) is a multifunctional nucleotide that is most important as a "molecular currency" of intracellular energy transfer. In this role, ATP transports chemical energy within cells for metabolism. It is produced as an energy source during the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration and consumed by many enzymes and a multitude of cellular processes including biosynthetic reactionsmotility and cell division. In signal transduction pathways, ATP is used as a substrate by kinases that phosphorylate proteins and lipids, as well as by adenylate cyclase, which uses ATP to produce the second messenger molecule cyclic AMP.
