WWW
(The World Wide Web). One of several features of the Internet. This is the place that people are raving about. It contains colorful graphics, video, sound bites, real audio , and much, much more. The World Wide Web (also known as WWW, W3, or the Web) is fast becoming the predominant tool for accessing and storing information on the Internet. Like gopher , it is a menu-based system. Unlike gopher, menu items are actually hypertext links which allow the user to jump among menu pages, directories, files, and documents, and other Internet (FTP, gopher, and Telnet) sites.

Glossary of Computer and Internet Terms
WWW
Stands for "World Wide Web." Contrary to popular belief, this is not a synonym for the Internet. The World Wide Web, or just "the Web," as ordinary people call it, is a subset of the Internet. The Web consists of web pages that can be accessed with a Web browser. The Internet is the actual network of networks where all the information resides. Things like Telnet, FTP, Internet gaming, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), and e-mail are all part of the Internet, but not the World Wide Web. The Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is the is the set of rules all web resources need to abide by. With hypertext, a word or phrase can contain a link to another Web site. All web pages are written in hyper-text markup language (HTML), which works hand-in-hand with HTTP.

World Wide Web
"The World Wide Web" and "WWW" redirect here. For other uses, see Web and WWW (disambiguation). For the web browser, see WorldWideWeb.

The World Wide Web (commonly shortened to the Web) is a system of interlinked, hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, a user views web pages that may contain textimagesvideos, and other multimedia and navigates between them using hyperlinks. The World Wide Web was created in 1989 by Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Sam Walker from the United Kingdom, and Robert Cailliau from Belgium, working at CERN in GenevaSwitzerland. Since then, Berners-Lee has played an active role in guiding the development of web standards (such as the markup languages in which web pages are composed), and in recent years has advocated his vision of a Semantic Web.
