Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913)
V

V, the twenty-second letter of the English alphabet, is a vocal consonant. V and U are only varieties of the same character, U being the cursive form, while V is better adapted for engraving, as in stone. The two letters were formerly used indiscriminately, and till a comparatively recent date words containing them were often classed together in dictionaries and other books of reference (see U). The letter V is from the Latin alphabet, where it was used both as a consonant (about like English w) and as a vowel. The Latin derives it from it from a form (V) of the Greek vowel / (see Y), this Greek letter being either from the same Semitic letter as the digamma F (see F), or else added by the Greeks to the alphabet which they took from the Semitic. Etymologically v is most nearly related to u, w, f, b, p; as in vine, wine; avoirdupois, habit, have; safe, save; trover, troubadour, trope. See U, F, etc.

As a numeral, V stands for five, in English and Latin.

    Volt (V)
The volt is the International System of Units (SI) measure of electric potential or electromotive force. A potential of one volt appears across a resistance of one ohm when a current of one ampere flows through that resistance. Reduced to SI base units, 1 V = 1 kg times m2 times s-3 times A-1 (kilogram meter squared per second cubed per ampere).

    1. In an optical fiber, a dimensionless quantity, V , given by

where a is the core radius, is the wavelength in vacuum, n 1 is the maximum refractive index of the core, and n 2 is the refractive index of the homogeneous cladding. Note 1: In multimode operation of an optical fiber having a power-law refractive index profile, the approximate number of bound modes, i.e., the mode volume, is given by

where V is the normalized frequency greater than 5 and g is the profile parameter. Note 2: For a step index fiber, the mode volume is given by V 2/2. For single-mode operation, V < 2.405. Synonym V number. 2. The ratio between an actual frequency and a reference value. 3. The ratio between an actual frequency and its nominal value. (188 )

    IC power supply pin
Almost all integrated circuits (ICs) have at least two pins which connect to the power rails of the circuit they are installed in. These are known as the IC's power supply pins. However, the labeling of the pins varies by IC family and manufacturer.

The simplest labels are V+ and V−. However, internal design and historical tradition have led to a variety of other labels being used. Also, V+ and V− may be confused with the + and − voltage inputs to ICs like op amps.

Sometimes one of the power supply pins will be referred to as ground. In digital logic, this is nearly always the negative pin; in analog integrated circuits, it is most likely to be a pin intermediate in voltage between the most positive and most negative pins .

    V (Live album)
V, originally titled Ecstatic Fanatic, is Live's fifth album, released in 2001.

Featuring the singles "Simple Creed" and "Overcome" (the latter of which received significant exposure following 9/11), V nonetheless reflected Live's continued commercial fall-off, reaching only #22 on the album charts at home, and failing to even reach gold, despite reasonably positive reviews.

The remix of "Deep Enough," which is a hidden track on this album, was featured in the movie The Fast and the Furious. Additionally, "Forever May Not Be Long Enough" appears on the soundtrack to The Mummy Returns and plays during the end credits of the movie, and "Overcome" appeared in the FX Network television show The Shield.

    V+
V+ (previously known as TV Drive) is a product from Virgin Media which provides Personal Video Recording (PVR) and High Definition (HD) functionality to customers who subscribe to the service. Virgin Media have taken a different approach to rival Sky's HD service, by implementing a rental scheme for the V+ Set Top Box. When Virgin Media was launched, there was an installation charge (waived under certain circumstances) and a monthly charge of £15 for TV M and L customers or £10 for XL customers. As of the first of June, 2007, all new customers pay a £150 setup fee and then TV M and L customers must pay a £5 monthly charge for the service. TV XL customers have no extra charges, but the box is still technically on lease, still owned by Virgin Media, who will provide technical support for their STB free of charge if a problem occurs for the life of your contract. This pricing revision could be seen as a reaction to the recent changes Sky have made to the pricing of their Sky+ and Sky+HD services.

    V.
    V. is the debut novel of Thomas Pynchon, published in 1963. It describes the exploits of a discharged U.S. Navy sailor named Benny Profane, his reconnection in New York with a group of pseudo-bohemian artists and hangers-on known as the Whole Sick Crew, and the quest of an aging traveller named Herbert Stencil to identify and locate the mysterious entity he knows only as "V.".

    Verilog
Verilog is a hardware description language (HDL) used to model electronic systems. The language (sometimes called Verilog HDL) supports the design, verification, and implementation of analogdigital, and mixed-signal circuits at various levels of abstraction.

The designers of Verilog wanted a language with syntax similar to the C programming language so that it would be familiar to engineers and readily accepted. The language is case-sensitive, has a preprocessor like C, and the major control flow keywords, such as "if" and "while", are similar. The formatting mechanism in the printing routines and language operators and their precedence are also similar.
