A combative and energetic midfielder, Allan Nielsen has been an inspiring influence in the Danish squad ever since he scored in his debut game against Armenia in 1995. Nielsen began his career in Esbjerg before he moved to FC Bayern München in 1989 to join their youth squad. However, life in Munich did not agree with Nielsen and in 1991 he decided to move back to Odense where he became an instant success with Odense BK. This prompted Brøndby IF to acquire his services in 1993 and the following year he won the Superliga championship title with the club. Nielsen then signed for Tottenham Hotspur FC in 1996, but although he did not become an instant hit at White Hart Lane and was not always a regular in the first-team. He has recently been playing on loan in the English First Division for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. He was selected in all eight of his country's qualifying matches for the 1998 FIFA World Cup finals.
