Sioux Falls (IPA: [su fɑlz]) is the largest city in the U.S. state of South Dakota, and the county seat of Minnehaha County. The 2007 city population is 148,000. As of the Census Bureau's July 1, 2006 population estimates, Sioux Falls ranks as the 166th largest U.S. city by population. [1] Sioux Falls is the primary city of a metropolitan area of 223,000. Chartered in 1856 on the banks of the Big Sioux River, the city is situated on the prairie of the Great Plains at the junction of I-90 and I-29.
