Often abbreviated as L.A., it is an alpha world city having an estimated 2006 population of 3,849,378 and spanning 469.1 square miles (1,214.9 square kilometers). The metropolitan area is the estimated home to nearly 13 million people. Los Angeles is the seat of Los Angeles County and its inhabitants are referred to as "Angelenos", though the correct Spanish spelling is Angelinos".
