8x8 Inc. was originally founded in 1987 as a vendor of semiconductor products for the videoconferencing market. The company was originally named Integrated Information Technology Corporation, better known as IIT.

The company also produced x87 floating point coprocessor  and graphics accelerator chips for the mass-market personal computer market during the early 1990s. The floating coprocessors were produced for the 286, 386 and 486 generations of microprocessors. The company also started a 486 compatible microprocessor chip project, but this project never completed.
