Gerry McAvoy
Gerry McAvoy (born in 1950,  Belfast) played bass guitar for Rory Gallagher between 1971 and 1991, and has since been in Nine Below Zero. In 2006 McAvoy had his autobiography, Riding Shotgun - 35 years on the road with Rory Gallagher and Nine Below Zero, published. He is known for playing a very solid style although he certainly has the ability to play much more comlpex notes and rythms as can be heard on his work with Nine Below Zero. He began listening to various blues records at an early age as well as rock and roll In his autobiography he cites his brother in law of the same name as influencing much of his Musical taste. He mostly plays a salmon pink fender precision bass which was presented to him by the fender company. He stated out by playing a highly respected Belfast band known then as Deep Joy. This were he first played with Brenan O'Neill on drums who was later to tour with Rory Gallagher and play on Gallagher's last album "Fresh Evidence".
