equals sales divided by capital employed. Capital intensive industries (eg. heavy engineering) will tend to have low figures for asset turnover. The asset turnover can be improved by generating a higher level of sales from a given asset base or by disposing of assets which are not productive.

Asset turnover is a financial ratio that measures the efficiency of a company's use of its assets in generating sales revenue or sales income to the company.
