Glossary of Computer and Internet Terms
Apple
This is the name of a company that makes Macintosh computers. The reason this term is in the glossary is because way too many people confuse "Apple" with "Macintosh". Apple is the company that makes Macintosh computers. These include Power Macs, PowerBooks, iMacs, and iBooks. The company is widely known for their innovation and unique products. And no, Apple is not going out of business. In fact, the company's recent rate of growth far outpaces the industry average. With strong sales of iMacs and Power Mac G4s, and the introduction of the Cube computer, Apple is poised for a very bright future. Apple
Apple A temperate fruit of Europe and Western Asia, appearing in classical, Arabian, and ancient European mythology and folklore as "a means to immortality, an emblem of fruitfulness, an offering or a distraction in suitor contests, a cure, a love charm, a test of chastity, a means of divination, a magic object" (Funk & Wagnalls Standard Dictionary of Folklore); the Greek golden apples of the Hesperides and the Scandinavian apples of Idunn confer immortality; in the Arabian Nights the apple of Prince Ahmed cures every disease. Apples were used for divination in Druidic Britain. {SD}.

Easton's Bible Dictionary
Apple
(Heb. tappuah, meaning "fragrance"). Probably the apricot or quince is intended by the word, as Palestine was too hot for the growth of apples proper. It is enumerated among the most valuable trees of Palestine (Joel 1:12), and frequently referred to in Canticles, and noted for its beauty (2:3, 5; 8:5). There is nothing to show that it was the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil." Dr. Tristram has suggested that the apricot has better claims than any other fruit-tree to be the apple of Scripture. It grows to a height of 30 feet, has a roundish mass of glossy leaves, and bears an orange coloured fruit that gives out a delicious perfume. The "apple of the eye" is the Heb. ishon, meaning manikin, i.e., the pupil of the eye (Prov. 7:2). (Comp. the promise, Zech. 2:8; the prayer, Ps. 17:8; and its fulfilment, Deut. 32:10.) The so-called "apple of Sodom" some have supposed to be the Solanum sanctum (Heb. hedek), rendered "brier" (q.v.) in Micah 7:4, a thorny plant bearing fruit like the potato-apple. This shrub abounds in the Jordan valley. (See ENGEDI.)

Wikipedia English - The Free Encyclopedia
Apple

The apple is the pomaceous fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family Rosaceae. It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits. The tree is small and deciduous, reaching 5-12 m tall, with a broad, often densely twiggy crown.

The leaves are alternately arranged simple ovals 5-12 cm long and 3-6 cm broad on a 2-5 cm petiole with an acute tip, serrated margin and a slightly downy underside. Flowers are produced in spring simultaneous with the budding of the leaves.

Ariane Passenger Payload Experiment
This article is about the satellite APPLE. For the fruit apple, see Apple. For other uses see Apple (disambiguation).

The Ariane Passenger PayLoad Experiment (APPLE), was an experimental communication satellite with a C-Band transponder launched by Indian Space Research Organisation satellite on June 191981 by Ariane, a launch vehicle of the European Space Agency (ESA) from Centre Spatial Guyanais near Kourou in French Guiana. It was India's first three-axis stabilised experimental Geostationary communication satellite. On July 161981, the satellite was positioned at 102° E longitude. The 350 kg satellite served as testbed of the Indian telecommunications space relay infrastructure despite the failure of one solar panel to deploy. It was used in several communication experiments including relay of TV programmes and radio networking. It was a cylindrical spacecraft measuring 1.2 meters in diameter and 1.2 meter high. Its payload consisted of two 6/4 GHz transponders connected to a 0.9 meter diameter parabolic antenna. It went out of service on September 191983.
